Posted June 09, 2019 07:48:03A man with a body mass index of 25 was admitted to hospital with a fever after he went to the emergency department and felt he had a stomach ache, according to a report.
The man had an elevated body temperature and complained of a stomach pain when he went into the emergency room on June 8.
He went to a specialist who determined he had abdominal anorexia, and he was sent to the Queensland Hospital.
“He was put on a ventilator, and when the ventilators were put on he could feel the pressure on his abdomen,” a doctor told the ABC.
“It was a really tough time.
He had been through quite a lot in his life.”
The doctor said the man was in a very bad way and needed to have his diet changed.
He was discharged the next day and returned to hospital on June 11.
The patient’s condition worsened on June 12 when he tested negative for a condition known as metabolic syndrome.
He is now in the intensive care unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
